A 75-year-old man and five others have been Remanded for Reportedly Pushing a Stick into the backside of a Suspected Thief.

A 75-year-old man and five others have been remanded for reportedly pushing a stick into the backside of a suspected thief.

Francis Obeng Amoako, 79, and five other people were remanded in police detention by a district court in Agogo, Ashanti, presided over by Mr George Kwasi Ofori, for allegedly inserting a stick into the anus of a suspected juvenile thief in front of a camera.

Kofi Asadu, 29, Obeng Mensah, 30, Osei Bonsu, 53, Boakye Danquah, 65, and Kofi Bonti, 42, are the other five remanded suspects.

Kwaku Enoch, a 16-year-old accused thief, was apprehended after breaking into a business owned by the 79-year-old man at Agogo Market.

The people who arrested the guy instead of handing him over to the police opted to kill him by inserting a rod into his anus, in local slang, this is referred to as (Kofie ko wu), or “go home and die.”

After the court rejected their plea, the 79-year-old man who led the barbarous deed against the accused juvenile thief and five other accomplices were detained to appear in court on June 27, 2021.

Residents who were outraged by the heinous deed flocked to the courthouse on Thursday to see the accusers and watch the proceedings.

Kwaku Enoch, a 16-year-old boy, is fighting for his life at the Agogo Presbyterian Hospital after a successful anal surgery.

ACCOUNT OF THE POLICE

Police
On July 9, 2021, Agogo police discovered a viral video in which the perpetrators were seen pushing the stick into the victim’s anus while his wrists and legs were bound behind his back.

The culprits were identified as Agogo residents by the police, who were apprehended by the night patrol squad.

The following day, July 10, 2021, the mother of the victim, Ms Adwoa Oparebea, submitted a complaint about her missing son who happened to be the victim, aged 16, who she knew had been harmed by a group of people but was unable to locate him in order to transport him to the hospital.

Mr Amoako, who had acknowledged his role in the case, informed police that after inserting the stick into the victim’s anus, they untied him, removed the stick, and let him leave.

The victim’s mother informed the police on July 11, 2021, that she had located her son and that he was alive, and she was given a police medical paperwork to take the victim to the hospital for treatment.

The victim was later visited by the police at the Agogo Presbyterian Hospital, where he was admitted and receiving treatment, he claimed.
